I'm really excited about this weekend - it's all classic rock and live.
Growing up I was a huge fan of Rush - I was always fascinated by the drumming of Neil Perth - one of the best and most influential drummers in rock history (see link - I ranked Neil as my second favourite drummer of all time). If you doubt - just take a listen to Tom Sawyer and Limelight.
"Moving Pictures" (1981) seems to really reflect that chaotic yet beautifully synced drumming of Neil on the tracks mentioned above. And I'm in Tampa this weekend to see Rush perform at 1-800-Ask-Gary, where they are doing the entire Moving Pictures album! I can't wait to see them as it was one of my childhood dreams.
On another front - what's classic rock without Pink Floyd...."The Wall" is like the 3rd biggest selling album in history and "Dark Side of the Moon" is the longest running album in history - about 15 years (770 weeks) on the charts - wow!
I'll be seeing Roger Water's "The Wall" tour this Sunday in Boston - one of my fave cities.
Also whilst in Boston I hope to catch up with fellow blogger Rob at BosGuy and his partner for dinner/drinks!
So that's classic rock weekend! With music to boot!
Anyways peeps TTYL!

I have a friend who LOVE LOVE LOVES Rush and Neil Perth.. can't beat a great drummer... pun intended.
ReplyDeleteI have seen Floyd without Waters then saw him tour Dark Side of the Moon a couple years ago. The husband talked about seeing the Wall on Friday in Boston but decided not to spend the money.. he really annoys me sometimes..ok a lot.
My only complaint about Waters was he dissed American politics too much for my liking..the music however was amazing.
[side note. one of his back up singers was Katie Kazoo who used to back up Robbie Williams.. lol]
These are some of my favorite albums. But what about Rush's 2112? That was also spectacular.
ReplyDeleteA couple of rockin' comments from some awesome bloggers...
ReplyDeleteVL - Live Rush, and Neil - I think I'll be in heaven for a while - I plan to air drum to Limelight and Tom Sawyer.
On the note of Roger Waters - some of these musicians are outspoken - sometimes they are not responsible in their views and opinions - but I want to see "The Wall" - I have so much childhood memories on the movie and the songs.
Larry - Oh yeah what memories this brings back! Their was that epic classic prog epic track which was 20 mins! I think this tour is classic Moving Pictures from what I read about it! Still a good album!
So great to connect last night. I hope you enjoyed the show on Sunday and look forward to chatting later.
ReplyDeleteyou are lucky! Trips, concerts and meeting bloggers... Have fun
