Birthday @ Michael's
Here's some pics (not much) from my birthday a few days ago!
Kim, Jon, and Tammy
My friend Greg (bald guy in black rock-tee) gave me the actual playlist from an Ozzie concert a few weeks ago! Rock on!
Jon and Kim sharing a joke and Tammy and James getting down to ordering!
Life Goes On
Sometimes life throws us way out of whack, but we always seem to re-establish equilibrium - the triumph of the human spirit. This past couple of months have seen me through some form of depression, anxiety, love gained, friendships rekindled, and my own personal growth.
Relationship wise - I feel like I've detached a bit - and trust me - that's all good! I feel like I am more in tune with my relationship - like I have more control and I love myself for it.
This year has seen me get some "me" time with yoga. I am fanatical about it - I'm not that good, but it's perfect for my pace of life and where I am right now in terms of age. I've blogged way too many over the last couple of months on yoga and the hot daddies in it - I even made a retreat to Costa Rica which really soothed my mind.
My friends have also been going through so much - friends falling in and out of love with each other; some friends rearing an ugly head and being venomous....some friends needed to be sucked out of my life and some friends I needed to re-establish relationships with....
However you look at it - life goes on....and family have proven great (some are still a pain in the rear)!
Anyways peeps - TTYL!
Good friends!
I feel good right now - I've regained a new flame for my love of music - I feel totally excited about it again, as I once did back in the 80's. This might be due to my friend Chris who shares the same passion for music as I. It's always good to share passion....love of food, music, travel....whatever twists your fancy.Me at the 80's party - classic hard rock chic is what I call it!

John Lennon - 30 Years Since His Shooting...
John Lennon was shot and killed on December 8th, 1980 - 30 years ago. This year (if John was alive) he would have been 70 (see related Happy 70th Birthday John Lennon)!
To me, John's song-writing exploded and was more interesting as a solo artist - after leaving The Beatles. I am a huge fan of the man himself, his convictions, his great music and the extremely utopion, thought-provoking, music he wrote as a solo artist.
Of course, we all know "Imagine" released in 1971 - this one simple word, echoes so much. John encouraged us to think about our lives, our world and the beauty of dreaming of peace and love - simple but very thought-provoking and powerful.
Here's my favorite Top 7 John Lennon songs:
7. Give Peace A Chance
6. Instant Karma
5. Woman
4. Starting Over
3. Working Class Hero
2. Jealous Guy
1. Imagine
John - you were an inspiration to so many and your influence continues today and will do so for the generations to come.
Anyways folks - TTYL!

Hard Rock and the Blues
We think of hard rock from the classic 70's, with bands like Led Zepplin (see "Led Zepplin: Heavy Metal Thunder"), Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Rainbow .... to name a few. Across both sides of the ponds there was evolution, but really with a massively different backbone.
On the U.K. side, the classic rock bands like Zep, Cream, the Stones embraced American blues, as their influence to something bigger. On the US side, there was Hendrix, MC 5, Aerosmith, CCR....developing their own signature American rock n' roll sound.....regardless of which.....the hard rock sound was forged out of these pioneers and with a heavy influence from the good ole' blues.
Take Zep, for instance....to me this band remains the all-time best hard rock band of all time....you listen to "Whole Lotta Love" and there's no mistaking the influence of blues. Clapton's stint in Cream, was a bit more prog, but as Clapton evolved as an artist, his style was primarily blues oriented.
There is of course, Jimmy, (to be the greatest guitarist of all time), and that smoky, blusey sound was a definite blue print for his own classic style of hard rock.
These days I'm really getting into Stevie Ray Vaughan (see "Best Rock Guitarists Part 2")..I was recently listening to a talk show, that said that Stevie was like all of the best parts of the all the great blues musicians into one - I guess they were saying it was like listening to all of the great players through Stevie - check out this awesome YouTube clip....
Anyways folks....hope you enjoy!

Led Zepplin - Steve's all-time fave hard rock, blues-influence band!
Jimmy - Steve's pick of all time rock guitarist!
