This could very well be my favorite post of yours this year. I have some opinions on where certain members would rank, but I love this list.
ReplyDeleteJust based on names I recognized 10 or songs..perhaps if I heard them I would. I did recognize a lot of the bands so perhaps I know more than I think.
ReplyDeleteNot sure what I was doing in the 80s but I'm ashamed how little I know...
My 2 fave Bostonians:
ReplyDelete- Rob - thanks - it's al; new wave baby!
- VL - I'm sure you know most of these songs - if you enjoyed the pop in the 80's - you'd recognise the bulk of the songs in here! I know for me in the 80's - I was all about the music! Miss it!
Wow, that is an amazing list. I am not sure I could even take on a task like that - I might melt down! That said, nicely done! There were two names missing from the list I'd like to see on it, but I have no idea who I'd replace to make room! 1. Bob Geldof & the Boomtown Rats, and co-founder of Band Aid & Live Aid. And my wacky musical BF, Paul Weller, with either The Jam, The Style Council, or his solo stuff, although his solo is Pop, not NW. The Style Council music was amazing - My Ever Changing Mood, Have You Ever Had It Blue, You're The Best Thing... Ah, the memories, the music.... Thanks.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE Depeche Mode!!! I'm glad you do too.
ReplyDeleteHowie - I miss your comments my friend! Thanks for the comment! I did think of Boomtown Rats and "I Don't Like Mondays" which I did toss in and out since it was a classic 70's new wave song! And yep - "My Ever Changing Moods" by the Style Council is also one that came to mind but again was tossed in and out - maybe that's my bad since it is such a good song!
ReplyDeleteI know my list isn't perfect but there were so much good songs which were not listed like:
- Band Aid (as you mentioned);
- Is She Really Going Out With Him - Joe Jackson;
- Radio Radio - Elvis Costello;
- Bizzaire Love Triangle - New Order;
just to name a few!
Larry my friend - love is an understatement - they completely rock! Thanks my friend! I know you're a fan too!
ReplyDeleteI think I have all these songs
ReplyDeleteMost of these are in our playlist. The ones that aren't are on our albums. Steve how long did it take you to make this list? OMG, I can't imagine the effort. I'd be fighting with myself all day about who would be on the list and where they needed to go. I know you love music, but you should get an award for this one, and I'm not just saying that because Depeche Mode ranked #1 either.:)
ReplyDeleteKyle - to be honest the list did not take that long - I started on one night and just ranked them from 1 to 100 as the tunes came to my mind. It might have taken about 2 hours - it probably took longer to type. I've been tabulating this list in my mind for years (well sub consciously anyways).
ReplyDeleteThanks for the complement on the award :)
