Trent at the Oscars

Wow - now Trent really did a 360 on his fans when he won the Oscar for Best Original Score last night for "The Social Network" - an Oscar he shared with Atticus Russ.

Can you tell I'm a huge fan of Trent? - I've done several posts on him and his band Nine Inch Nails. I just find him so .... well ..... HAWT! (Links below)

Last night this was my man Trent:

Wow - I voted Trent as one of the Top 10 sexiest men in rock today (see link here).

Trent also won the Golden Globe as well for the same category....ummmm hmmmmm!

Wow - clean shaven and looking mighty fine at 45!

Now - compare the above chic images to the rocker I simply adore:
Trent - the energetic, hard rocking, industrial-metal goth pioneer in Nine Inch Nails....still a classy looking rocker dude.

I had the previlege of seeing Nine Inch Nails in 2009 in North Carolina on their last tour (if you look at my side bar, there's a picture from the concert):

A pic from the concert I say in 2009. Here's the link to the post I did - here

Also - a few posts ago I did a post on Nine Inch Nail's video "Closer" being pulled from iTunes (see link here).

Here's some more accolades to Trent:

- NiN has been nominated for 12 Grammy's and won 2 in 1993 and 1995 for best metal performance;
- NiN was on the 1st Loolapolooza (did I spell that correctly?) in 1991;
- Johnny Cash covered NiN's classic "Hurt" for which Cash was nominated for several Grammy's;
- Trent was in Time magazine's 25 Most Influential People in a special issue released in 1997.

Well, I'm a fan - he's a healthy looking rocker - good body, handsome and talented!

Anyways peeps - TTYL!

Townes Van Zandt - One of the Great American Songwriters

To me...it seems that the songs of love, sadness and unhappy endings may have equally applied to Townes life, up to his death in 1997

I am so bored with all of the pop music out there - I'm not impressed by anyone at the moment - the music seems so rehearsed, generic and just plain flat - it's so BLAH!!!

With that in mind, I've been trying to find some really good song writing - songs that I can easily play a guitar to, hum and really just enjoy the true poetry of the artist. Very few songwriters convey this feeling to me - most notably Bob Dylan and John Lennon are the two foremost that come to mind.

But now, I'm adding Townes Van Zandt. Having read his story it makes for a good movie - he was born of a wealthy Texas-oil family, but lived in a trailer for most of his life, up until his time of death.

He was one of the best song-writers in America at the time of Dylan and the 60's but yet he had no major charting success or hits.

He was a talented singer and musician, and yet he never played a concert - he performed for mere pittances, at local bars and small gatherings.

Despite being one of America's top songwriters (Bob Dylan wanted to collaborate with him to write music, but he refused Bob on several occasions), he was hugely popular in Europe - in fact when his fan club was opened in the US it was surprising how much letters came in from fans from Europe.

At an early age, he was a heavy drinker and substance abuser - one of his mother's regrets was the insulin shock treatment they gave him, which erased his long term memory.

I first came unto Townes from the Cowboy Junkies (one of my fave bands of all time), when they did a couple of covers of his. In fact the Cowboys were such massive fans of Townes that he toured with them in the US and as a result, the Junkies opened up the man and his music to a whole new generation - way to go for a Canadian folk-country rock band.
Townes was also a major influence on Emmylou Harris - she covered a few of his songs.

If you do get a chance to listen to Townes - just sit back and listen to "If I Needed You", "Tescumeh Valley", and "For the Sake of the Song" - they're on iTunes.

Anyways peeps - TTYL!

Foo Fighters - Rope

Now this is what I'm talking about - the new Foo Fighters song "Rope" reminds me of the stripped down, classic return to some good ole rock n' roll.

Take a listen:

Valentine's Day

Happy Valentine's Day cutie pies - hope you find love, peace and awesomeness! Rock on!

Last year I counted down the Top 10 Metal Ballads according to SteveA....This year, I'm going with just some awesome (more traditional?) love songs that I like - again it's a Top 10 list according to SteveA - so enjoy!

10. Do That To Me (One More Time) - Captain and Tenille

Something about this song reminds me of my days sitting at the radio to tape (yep - remember when you can press record, play and pause to tape music) this song - ah yes - the 80's.

9. That's How Much I Feel - Ambrosia

I just love the storytelling in this song - it's one of those you can follow through and visualise what they are singing about!

PS: Skip the first 30 seconds - it's blank!

8. Three Times A Lady - The Commodores

The romanticism of The Commodores - classic!

7. I Love You - Climax Blues Band

This is truly a great love song - the lyrics are deep with emotion and it always makes me tear up when I hear it! It's about that love one standing by you through the worst of times.

6. Baby I Love Your Way - Peter Frampton

It was hard to find a good recording of this on YouTube - but we all know this song! The version by Frampton never hit Top 10, but re-makes of it by Big Mountain and Will To Power hit Top 10 (the latter made it to #1).

5. Crazy Love - Poco

I just love the simple, beautiful emotion in this song all set to acoustic! It has a serenity on it's own!

4. I Can't Help (Falling In Love With You) - Elvis Presley

UB 40 had a huge hit with it from the Sliver soundtrack - it spent 6 weeks at the Top.

3. Maybe I'm Amazed - Paul McCartney and Wings

Paul wrote this song for his wife for her support to him during the breakup of The Beatles.

2. Let's Get It On - Marvin Gaye

What can I say - the lyrics says it all.

1. Saving All My Love For You - Whitney Houston

I absolutely love this song - and personally is one of my fave love songs - that's why it's #1. It was also Whitney's 1st  #1 song and started off her string of 7 consecutive #1 songs - wowie!

Well cuties - TTYL!

Nine Inch Nails Removed from iTunes?

Hello gorgeous bloggers - it's been a while, but I lost my blogging mojo a bit....but let's hope I get consistent this time.

Anywho's - I was just checking the iTunes store and would you believe that they've removed one of the greatest videos ever made? .....Nine Inch Nails' video for "Closer" has been removed.

Why? - I have no idea....but it's such a shame since this video is artistically visual and creates a unique distorted etherworld that possible only Trent Reznor can understand....this is definitely one of the greatest videos ever created.

So in the meantime - here's Nine Inch Nails' Closer!

Anyways folks - TTYL!
